Onyx Lorraine Cross Necklace
The Cross of Lorraine originates as a heraldic icon, a Hungarian symbol, the mark of house Lorraine. But it has since been borrowed through the centuries by christians, alchemists and satanists alike.
My own interest in creating this piece spawns purely from its beautiful iconic shape and my love for antique jewelry and religious relics.
A hand-cut, hand-stamped budded double bar cross, made from solid sterling silver. Two onyx cabochons adorn the front.
The back has been stamped with my maker's mark MF and.925 STERLING.
Entire cross measures 2.25 inches long for the larger one, 2 inches long for the smaller one. Pendant hangs on a 24 inch bar and link style chain with a lobster clasp.
As with all handmade and one-of-a-kind jewelry, utmost care should be taken to keep jewelry clean and dry. Never wear your pieces while bathing, swimming, or washing dishes to avoid having them submerged in water. Bones and stones are porous and susceptible to become weak when they get wet. Metals can tarnish and lose their patinas more quickly if they get wet or washed with chemicals frequently. Also, please remove your pieces before any strenuous activities as they are fragile and parts could be knocked loose or fall out. Treat your jewelry like the unique piece of art that it is and it will remain in good condition for ages.
